Offered is a black and white action shot from the “Thrilla in Manila.” This image of Joe Frazier battling Muhammad Ali shows Ali connecting on a right thrown to the top of Frazier’s head. Frazier has signed in blue marker over his right shoulder and head, while Ali has also signed in blue marker across his white trunks. The photograph is 15 inches high and 19 inches wide, and is framed and mounted with a black frame and white mount, and a black metal “caption plate” engraved at the bottom of the matte. The engraving notes that it is from “Ali-Frazier III The ‘Thriller in Manila’” in white letters across the black plate. It also includes a description of the fight, and the location, as well as the date (October 1, 1975). The Thrilla in Manila was the third and final boxing match between Ali and Frazier. It was contested in 1975 for the heavyweight championship of the world at the Philippine Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City, Philippines. The venue was renamed from Araneta Coliseum, specifically for the match. Ali won by TKO after Frazier's chief second, Eddie Futch, conceded the fight prior to the 15th round. The contest's name is derived from the frequent rhyming boast made by Ali that the fight would be a "killa and a thrilla and a chilla, when I get that gorilla in Manila." This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AC01271) and a Steiner Sports hologram.
