Babe Ruth, the indomitable slugger bowed by the ravages of terminal cancer, made his final appearance at Yankee Stadium on June 13th, 1948. The Yankees retired Ruth’s number “3” at the game, with the former Murderer’s Row star joining his compatriot Lou Gehrig in the hallowed Monument Park. Ruth’s final public appearance in Yankee Stadium was captured by the noted photographer Nat Fein. The photograph offered in this lot, also taken by Fein, shows Ruth sitting in front of his old locker in a full Yankees home uniform, fiddling with his left cleat and looking away from the camera. This candid photograph captures the Ruth’s final moments at Yankee Stadium, with the home run king passing away from cancer two months later in August of 1948. The black and white photograph measures 11 x 14 inches, and it has been signed by Fein in black pen. The photograph is framed to the dimensions of 17 x 20 inches and it comes with a LOA from JSA.
