Offered is Nick Anderson’s Benji Wilson Memorial Award, presented to the former Chicago prep star by the Chicago Sun-Times newspaper as the Chicago-area Player of the Year. The 4 x 8-inch silver metal bowl sits atop a 6 x 8½ x 8½-inch wood base. Please note that the silver metal bowl is loosely attached to the base by a screw and bolt. The front of the base has a 3¾ x 6¼-inch silver metal plaque engraved with the legend “The Benji Wilson Memorial Award Presented by the Chicago Sun-Times to the Chicago Area Player of the Year Nelison Anderson”. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Anderson played high school basketball at Simeon Career Academy where he was named "Illinois Mr. Basketball" for 1986 after leading his team to the city championship and a top national ranking in USA Today. Anderson would go on to play at the University of Illinois for two years before joining the Orlando Magic as their first-ever NBA Draft selection. His NBA career also included stints with the Sacramento Kings and the Memphis Grizzlies. He currently serves the Magic in several off-the-court functions and was elected to the "Illini Men's Basketball All-Century Team" in 2004.
