The 1947 Cleveland Indians made history during that season when Larry Doby became the first African-American player to play in the American League. Doby joined Jackie Robinson as the first two players to break the color barrier in their respective leagues. Signed by Cleveland Indians Team President Bill Veeck, Doby made his historic debut on July 5th and finished the season going 5-32 in 29 games.
Offered is this Official American League William Harridge baseball that has been signed by 21 members of the 1947 Cleveland Indians that finished fourth in the American League. A total of seven Hall of Famers have signed this baseball, which include Larry Doby, Al Lopez, Bob Feller, Bob Lemon, Lou Boudreau, Bill McKechnie and Joe Gordon. Boudreau and McKechnie’s signature appears on the sweet spot and notable players like Jim Hegan, Bob Kuzava, Mel Harder, Bryan Stephens, Hank Edwards, Hal Peck, George Metkovich, Don Black, Ed Klieman, Red Embree and Pat Seery. The remaining signatures include Eddie Bockman, Steve Gromek and Les Fleming. All of the signatures have been signed in blue ink and the baseball displays some toning due to age. The stampings are still clear and this multi-signed baseball comes with a full LOA from JSA (Z25238).
