Grinding center Orest Kindrachuk was a key member of the famed “Broad Street Bullies” Philadelphia Flyers teams of the early 1970s, anchoring a fearsome third-line with his pugnacious teammates Dave “The Hammer” Schultz and Don “Big Bird” Saleski. Kindrachuk made a two-game cameo appearance during the 1972-73 season but played a crucial role for the Flyers during their back-to-back Stanley Cup winning years in 1974 and 1975, scoring 72 points between the two seasons. Kindrachuk played six seasons for the Flyers before a trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he served as the team’s captain for three campaigns. Kindrachuk retired after spending the 1981-82 season with the Washington Capitals.
Presented here is a trophy awarded to Kindrachuk in honor of the Flyers 1974 Stanley Cup championship. This trophy is constructed of two attached parts, a 14-inch tall hockey player and a ¾ inch wooden pedestal. The skater comes with a detachable hockey stick. A plaque on the pedestal reads “Presented by the City of Philadelphia / To Orest Kindrachuk / Of the Philadelphia Flyers / Winners of the Stanley Cup 1974 / Frank L. Rizzo, Mayor”. This item comes with a LOA from Kindrachuk.
