Grinding center Orest Kindrachuk was a key member of the famed “Broad Street Bullies” Philadelphia Flyers teams of the early 1970s, anchoring a fearsome third-line with his pugnacious teammates Dave “The Hammer” Schultz and Don “Big Bird” Saleski. Kindrachuk made a two-game cameo appearance during the 1972-73 season but played a crucial role for the Flyers during their back-to-back Stanley Cup winning years in 1974 and 1975, scoring 72 points between the two seasons. Kindrachuk played six seasons for the Flyers before a trade sent him to the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he served as the team’s captain for three campaigns. Kindrachuk retired after spending the 1981-82 season with the Washington Capitals.
Presented here is a Year of the Flyers II plaque presented to Kindrachuk by former Philadelphia mayor Frank Rizzo. The Flyers won their second consecutive Stanley Cup Finals trophy in 1974-75, defeating the Buffalo Sabres in six games. This plaque measures 11 x 14 ½ inches and comes with a LOA from Orest Kindrachuk.
