This original work dates circa 1950's. The caricature portrait was painted in watercolor and gouache on heavy stock. Recognized worldwide as a premiere sports artist, Perillo has painted the greatest athletes of all time, including Rocky Marciano, Joe Montana, Babe Ruth, Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Secretariat just to name a few. The legendary sports artist attended the Cartoonists and Illustrators school in New York City and was trained by Norman Rockwell. Gabe Perillo was the staff artist for Ring Magazine '69-'79, painted portraits for ESPN's "Sports Century Series", "the 50 Greatest Athletes or the Century" and "Classic Sports Moments." This original portrait depicts a very unique hand painted caricature of NY Yankees great Joe DiMaggio and has been signed additionally in blue felt tip marker. The over-sized original piece measures "22 x "30" and have never had any lithographs made of them making this a true one of one. The autograph comes with a LOA from JSA.
