Presented here is a model of the B-29 Enola Gay airplane signed by Paul Tibbets. The Enola Gay was the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb when it let the “Little Boy” bomb fall on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Brigadier General Paul Tibbets of the 509th Composite Group was the commander and pilot of this mission. The 509th operated many different kinds of planes, including B-29 Superfortress bombers like the Enola Gay.
This model comes from a private collection and was used officially from 1996 to 2005 at the annual 509th Composite Group reunions. This model was a part of the large photo displays that told the story of the planes and crews of these historic atomic missions. This model is one of a kind, and a true piece of military history. Tibbets signed the pedestal of this model in black fine tipped marker. This item comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA.
