During a stellar career that saw him amass 318 victories, Hall of Fame hurler Phil Niekro baffled hitters – and his own catchers alike – with his fluttering knuckleball. This unusual piece is an Athlete of the Decade Award presented to “Knucksie” on February 19, 1989, by the Dapper Dan Club. The diamond-shaped 17x17” display is actually a battery-operated clock punctuated by mini gold bats on green felt. It features mounted game balls (courtesy of the Hall of Fame) from his 300th win (1985), the win giving Phil and his brother Joe a combined record 537 victories (‘87), and his final win ('97). Full signatures are on the first and third ball, with the other signed "Phil and Joe.” Various small plaques highlight the Dapper Dan club, while home plate features Phil’s career highlights as well as a listing of past winners and the date of the award. The felt has a small scuff mark but this wood-framed piece is in excellent condition. Includes PSA/DNA LOA.
