Presented is a small pottery jug that was a gift to President John F. Kennedy from friends, and which sat on his desk in the Oval Office at the White House for a few days. The 2 ½ x 4 ¼ inch light brown glazed jug has painted images on both sides of the flat sides, one of a cactus and sombrero in blue, white and green paint with the legend “Mexico” below in black painted letters, the other with a landscape of rocks and trees in blue, gray, green and white paint. The handle has dark brown and light brown paint, and a dark brown painted base. This jug was given to Kennedy by friends who had just visited Mexico. Kennedy was the 35th President of the United States, serving from January 1961 until his assassination in November 1963. This item is accompanied by a personal letter from Kennedy’s personal secretary, Evelyn Lincoln.
