Offered in this lot is Ray Starr’s personally owned 1945 Chicago Cubs money clip. Starr, a right-handed hurler from Nowata, Oklahoma, made his MLB debut in 1932 with the St. Louis Cardinals. Starr spent the 1933 season with the New York Giants and Boston Braves before spending the next several seasons traversing the vast minor leagues of mid-20th century American baseball. He next surfaced in the Majors in 1941 with the Reds, making an All-Star team in 1942, before ending his career in 1945 with the Pittsburgh Pirates and his final MLB team, the Chicago Cubs. Starr went 1-0 in 13 appearances, including one start, to finish his career with a 37-35 record. The Cubs made it to the World Series in 1945, only to fall in seven games to Hal Newhouser and the Detroit Tigers.

This offered silver money clip is etched with the initials “RS” and the year “1945”. A raised blue and silver Cubs logo is present on the money clip. Etched on the reverse side of the clip is “[H]and Mad[e]”, missing the “H” in “hand” and “e” in “made” due wear from use. Also etched on the back of the clip is “sterling”. This money clip is a fantastic collectible from World War II era of baseball history.
