One of a select few Major League baseball players whose names transcend the game, Roberto Clemente is regarded in as much esteem for his humanitarian efforts outside of the baseball arena as he was for anything he accomplished on the playing field. One of his greatest efforts was working to improve living conditions in various Latin American countries and territories. He continued his humanitarian efforts to the last day of his life, dying in a plane crash while attempting to fly relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua on New Year’s Eve 1972. His untimely death in 1972 meant that not only did the sport lose one of its greatest players, but also that there will always be a very limited supply of his coveted signatures. As such, even the most ragged scrap of paper bearing his beautifully swirling flourish of a signature, commands instant respect from collectors. Offered here is not a mere scrap of paper, but a signature of the late great Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente on the side panel of this Official National League Warren Giles stamped baseball. Clemente signed his name in blue ball point pen. The signature is light, but still readable and is a visually pleasing toned example of a Clemente single-signed ball on an ONL Giles branded ball that comes with a LOA from JSA (BB63630).
