Although his Major League playing career lasted for all of one plate appearance, Walter “Smokey” Alston was one of the best managers in Major League history. He managed the Dodgers for 23 seasons, winning seven National League pennants on two coasts. He managed the Dodgers to their only World Series victory in Brooklyn, in 1955, and two subsequent World Series on the West Coast. Often acknowledged as one of the greatest managers in the game, Alston was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1983.
Alston signed the sweet spot of this MacGregor Official League baseball. He signed his name as “Smokey Alston” in blue pen. He added the inscription “Best wishes” above his signature and this ball comes with a full LOA from PSA/DNA (I05530).
