For a guy who broke baseball's most revered record, Roger Maris autographs are frighteningly scarce. Unlike the Babe, whose single season home run record he topped in 1961, Maris was a very shy and private man. While others like his teammate Mickey Mantle courted publicity and enjoyed their fame, Maris simply came to the ballpark every day, hit tape measure home runs, and returned home to his beloved family.
This aspect of his character and the sad fact that Maris died at the too young age of 51, combines to make his autograph one of the most sought after in the hobby. This single-signed ball is what can only be described as a collector's dream come true. The Home Run King has signed this Dudley Official League ball right on the sweet spot in black fiber tipped marker. The ball is in pristine condition and Maris' signature is flawless and dead-center on the ball. This has to be one of the finest single-signed Roger Maris balls in existence. This signed baseball comes with a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA (Y06463) who have graded this perfect example an "8" for the signature, an "8" for the baseball and an overall grade of "8" and a LOA from JSA (B30106).
