Stan Mikita was a Slovak-born, Canadian professional ice hockey player for the Chicago Black Hawks of the National Hockey League, generally regarded as the best center of the 1960s. In 2017, he was named one of the 100 Greatest NHL Players. The Hockey Hall of Famer played for the Black Hawks from 1959 to 1980. Ranked 14th all-time in points, 18th in assists, 31st in goals, and 40th in games played, Mikita won the Hart Memorial Trophy as most valuable player in 1967 and 1968 and the Art Ross Trophy as leading scorer in 1964, 1965, 1967, and 1968.
Presented is a game-used hockey puck that Mikita used to score a goal in the Chicago Black Hawks 5-1 win over the Vancouver Canucks in the Pacific Coliseum in Vancouver on December 12, 1972. The vulcanized rubber puck has a white label on the top, indicating it was used by the Canucks in the game against Chicago, and was the first goal of the game, scored by Mikita (#21) in the first period. The bottom of the puck has blue, green and white Canucks logo decal. The puck comes in a 6 x 10-inch brown manila padded envelope that was mailed from Hockey Diversified, Inc. of Ontario, Canada to Edward J. Tasker in New York. The Canadian postmark is from 1973.
