Although Reggie Jackson was the self-proclaimed “Straw that stirred the drink”, Thurman Munson was the heart and soul of those late 1970s New York Yankees World Series Championship teams. Named the first Yankee caption since Lou Gehrig, Munson tragically died in a 1979 plane crash. What few single signed baseballs were penned by Munson, there is certainly not enough to satisfy the demand for his signature. This creamy-white OAL MacPhail baseball has a very bold “Thurman Munson” blue ink signature perfectly placed across the sweet spot. The ball exhibits some lightness to the red stitching, but still attractively frames the beautiful signature. Full LOA from PSA/DNA which grades the ball NM 7, the signature NM-MT 8 for an overall graded of PSA/DNA NM+ 7.5.
