Babe Ruth 100th Anniversary Auction
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/12/2014
Presented is an extraordinary example of a dual-signed Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig baseball. The lightly creamy toned “Jim Kelly Inc Official League Ball” has a bold “Babe Ruth” signature on the sweet spot with a fantastic “Lou Gehrig” on the west panel. A few areas of the ball contains some darker toning, a small spot landing between the “u” and “t” in Ruth, while a small mark intersects the capital “G” in Gehrig. The other tones areas encompass the south panel below the Ruth signature. This ball was originally signed for Butch “Waldo” Zander, who was a member of the amateur 1928 Dayton Yellow Jackets, and won their MVP award. Both Ruth and Gehrig were in attendance that day, likely a barnstorming trip, and signed this ball for the Dayton MVP. One of the nicest and most desirable Ruth and Gehrig signed baseballs extant. Full LOA from both PSA/DNA, cert number S13725; and full LOA from James Spence Authentication, cert number B70515.
