Presented here is a copy of "Baseball: The Fans' Game" written by Gordon "Mickey" Cochrane and signed by the Hall of Fame player and author and Hall of Famer Tris Speaker. Hall of Fame catcher Mickey Cochrane was a member of Connie Mack's great Philadelphia Athletics from 1925-1933, making three consecutive World Series appearances from 1929-1931, and played for the two-time American League champion Detroit Tigers in 1934 and 1935, winning the World Series in the latter year. In his post-playing days, he authored a book; Baseball the Fan's Game, published by Funk and Wagnalls in 1939, which went out of print for half a century until the Society reprinted it for American Baseball Research in 1992. The book looks at America's pastime through the perspective of Cochrane, one of the game's best catchers, and is an intimate glimpse into the life of an MLB player. The book was also signed by Hall of Famer Tris Speaker, one of the greatest centerfielders. Speaker is widely considered one of the best all-around players at the bat and in the field. He was Major League Baseball's all-time leader in doubles (792), and his 3,514 hits rank fifth all-time behind Pete Rose, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, and Stan Musial. His .345 career batting average places him sixth in the pantheon of the game's greatest hitters.

The presented hardcover copy of “Baseball: The Fan’s Game” features “BASEBALL” in bold letters with “The Fans’ Game” below in black. The faded-red cover contains abrasions and scratches throughout. Both Cochrane and Speaker signed the inside cover in black ink. Cochrane inscribed "To Alfred Eale Best Wishes" above his signature. The signatures and inscription are bold, and the pages feature very early elements of toning.
