In his 25 short years of life, Tupac Shakur was an irrepressible force of action, earning global recognition as a rapper and actor while becoming an enduring cultural icon. Tupac began his career as a member of the group Digital Underground, appearing mainly as a back-up dancer and vocalist, before releasing his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now in 1991. Before long, Tupac landed his first starring film role in the 1992 film Juice, playing the antagonist Roland Bishop. Not even a prison sentence could delay the meteoric rise of Shakur’s fame, which continued to rise until his tragic and mysterious death in September of 1996.
The item offered here is a love letter written by Tupac Shakur. It is addressed to “Simi”, a paramour of Shakur. In this letter, Tupac writes “Hey Simi / Here are some photoz 2 keep my reflection in your heart. I’m still waiting 4 more from U”. Additionally, Tupac drew a smiley face beneath his letter. He closed by writing “Love / Tupac”, and “Waiting 2 Hear from U / Dieing [sic] 2 C U”. Shakur has written this letter in blue ballpoint pen on a piece of 8 x 10.5 inch lined paper.
