Presented here is a handwritten sheet of working lyrics for the Tupac Shakur song “Runnin’ on E”. This song was released on Shakur’s posthumous album Until the End of Time, dropped in 2001, several years after the superstar entertainer’s premature death on September 13th, 1996. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, and went on to be certified four-times platinum by RIAA. This verse, the sixth on “Runnin’ on E”, begins with the emphatic opening line “Open Up! Fire watch em expire when my shellz split em”, and keeps on in a hail of classic, West Coast rapid fire rap. The verse ends with a reference to East Coast crime, with Shakur writing “Just like John Gotti but I’m a thug not Italian / balling thru this b***h with my sick battalion”.
These lyrics have been written on an 8 ½ x 11 inch sheet of white notebook paper with blue lines in blue ballpoint pen. Tupac added numerous corrections and edits to his work, scratching out several phrases and replacing them with his preferred lyrics. The numbers “1” through “8” are written down the side of this lyrics sheet. This page is in very good condition, with only minor toning present, and comes with a LOA from JSA as well as an LOA from Jermaine Carter, a former friend and business associate of the late rapper.
