One of the greatest competitors in the history of baseball, Ty Cobb set 90 Major League Baseball records during his 24 seasons in the American League, many of which still stand. His combined total of 4,065 runs scored and runs batted in (after adjusting for home runs) is still the highest ever produced by any major league player. Cobb joined the Detroit Tigers in 1905. He spent 22 seasons in Detroit and another two in Philadelphia, before retiring. Known for his aggressive baserunning style and his ability to hit to all fields, Cobb won nine consecutive AL batting titles from 1907 to 1915 and three more in his career. He hit .320 or better for 22 consecutive seasons including over .400 three times. In 1909, he led the league in home runs for the only time in his career and won the Triple Crown. Cobb’s best offensive season was 1911 when he led the AL in every major offensive category except home runs including hits, runs, RBI, batting average and slugging percentage and was named AL MVP. In 1936 Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
Presented is a Ty Cobb signed cut displayed with a Perez-Steele Galleries portrait card of the Hall of Fame hitter. Cobb has signed his name in brown pen on a white 1 ¼ x 2 ¼ -inch cut card. The Cobb signature is displayed beneath a 4 x 7-inch Dick Perez watercolor portrait of Cobb, in his Tigers uniform, swinging a bat with the playing field and outfield wall as background. The signed cut and the Perez-Steele card are mounted in a brown paper matte with blue borders and set within an 8 x 12-inch brown wood and glass frame. This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
