Presented is a hand-carved image of baseball immortal Ty Cobb that was on display in a New York City bar in the early 20th century. Cobb is depicted in a white uniform with navy-blue cap with the Detroit Tigers “D” logo in white, and navy-blue stirrups, with his fielder’s mitt outraised, his head in profile. The carved wooden image is hand-painted, with a green and white “ribbon” across the bottom. The caption in the ribbon below the image of Cobb in black paint reads “Ty Cobb Lifetime Batting Average .367. Stollen bases 892. Stollen bases one season 96. 1191 batted .420 stole 83. 1922 thirty six years old batted .401. Lifetime hit 4191.” The initials “JB” are carved into the wood at the lower right side.

The wooden statue is 3 x 36 x 42-inches, and is in very good condition, with some cobwebs in the lower base among the ribbon folds. The leg has a split as shown in the photos. The “Georgia Peach,” as depicted here, spent 22 seasons with the Tigers (1905-1926), the last six as the team's player-manager, and finished his career with the Philadelphia Athletics (1927-1928). In 1936, Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, receiving 222 out of a possible 226 votes (98.2 percent); no other player received a higher percentage of votes until Tom Seaver in 1992.
