Walter Johnson, Roger Peckingpaugh, and Tommy Taylor have signed this encapsulated album page. Johnson, one of the greatest pitchers in baseball history and a member of the National Baseball Hall of Fame, and Peckingpaugh were key players in the Senators 1924 World Series champions’ team. Johnson was the American League MVP in 1924, finishing with a 23-7 record at the age of 36. Peckingpaugh, a slick-fielding shortstop, drove in 73 runs in 1924, and went on to win the American League MVP in 1925. 1924 was Taylor’s only MLB season, with the Texas native earning a midseason call-up from the Memphis Chickasaws in July. He drove in 10 runs, with four extra base hits, before being traded back to Memphis in December of 1924.
Johnson has signed a card affixed to this album page in black fountain tip pen. The name “Mr. Tom Bond Thatcher” is printed on the card and “Born Nov. 6th”, Johnson’s birthday, is written on the card. “After World Series in 1924” is written in an unknown hand below the affixed card. Taylor and Peckingpaugh have signed the album page itself in black fountain pen. The back of the album page has been signed in black fountain pen by Harry M. Stevens, a pioneer of ballpark concessions widely credited as the inventor of the hot dog and the baseball scorecard. He inscribed “Col. Ohio” beneath his signature.
