Presented is a Wayne Gretzky signature on a score sheet from the March 29, 1999 game when “The Great One” scored his final NHL goal. Gretzky has signed his name on page one of the two-page document in black marker in the center of the page, and inscribed “99” below his signature. Gretzky, playing for the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden against the rival New York Islanders, scored an unassisted goal at 17:53 in the third period, en route to a 3-1 Rangers victory.
It was the last goal of Gretzky’s historic, 20-year National Hockey League career, which began in 1979 with the Edmonton Oilers. He is the leading scorer in NHL history, with more goals and assists than any other player. He garnered more assists than any other player scored total points and is the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season – a feat he accomplished four times. In addition, Gretzky tallied over 100 points in 16 professional seasons, 14 of them consecutive. At the time of his retirement in 1999 and persisting through 2017, he held 61 NHL records: 40 regular season records, 15 playoff records, and six All-Star records. He led the Oilers to four Stanley Cup titles. This item comes with a COA from JSA (N74803).
