This military appointment document signed by President William McKinley appoints one Benjamin Stark Jr. to the rank of Captain in the United States Army. A native of Oregon, Stark joined the army sometime before June of 1898, fighting for the 4th Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Cuba before becoming 1st lieutenant of the 31st Volunteer Infantry Regiment in July of 1899. On June 6th, 1900, McKinley signed this document making Stark a captain. The freshly-minted captain served in the army until 1908. This document has also been signed by Secretary of War (and later Secretary of State) Elihu Root. McKinley and Root have signed the document in black fountain pen. This item comes in a framed display and is accompanied by a JSA LOA.
