Presented is a handwritten essay about “Star Trek” and Captain Kirk, written and signed by actor William Shatner, on his personal stationery. In black ink on white paper, with the imprint “William Shatner” at the top of the page, Shatner wrote “Kirk enters the lexicon of heroes from Greek plays until today’s stories – A book called “A Hero of a Thousand Faces” talks about the classical hero – A man with a mission, he has a job to do. He meets with opposition – real problems or a complication his task – he must overcome – sometimes alone, sometimes with others, he struggles on eventually, with great difficulty, he performs the assigned task and our hero triumphs. This was Kirk – time and time again – through one villain or another he victoriously emerges He has be his side his beloved comrades in arms he consults, he seeks advice, but when it is necessary he reaches his own decisions, sometimes against the best of advice, and triumphs. The Gods are with him. Because of his bravery, his leadership, he is the epitome of a warrior, lover, thinker. The Greeks loved that – I loved that – Star Trek loved that.” Shatner has signed his name at the bottom of the essay. In his seven decades of acting, Shatner became a cultural icon for his portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise, playing the role in 79 TV episodes and seven feature-length motion pictures. This item comes with a full LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
