One of a select few major league baseball players whose names transcend the game, Roberto Clemente is regarded in as much esteem for his humanitarian efforts outside of the baseball arena as he is for anything he accomplished on the playing field. Clemente signed this Eastern Airlines souvenir ball on the sweet spot in green ball point pen. Clemente’s crisp signature has been given a PSA/DNA grading of 9 and the off white ball containing an Eastern Airlines red and white logo stamp and “HAITI” country-of-manufacture branding (Rawlings official Major League baseball’s of the time carry the same mark) grades a 7 for an overall PSA/DNA grade on the ball of an '8'. Clemente worked with Eastern Airlines in 1972 joining forces to improve living conditions in various Latin American countries and territories. He continued his humanitarian efforts to the last day of his life dying in a plane crash while attempting to fly relief supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua on New Year’s Eve that same year just three months after recording the 3,000th and final hit of his 18-year career. This fascinating late-period Clemente-signed-ball is among the last he would have signed in the final year of his career. Comes with PSA/DNA LOA certification #S02670.
