The 1948 Leaf boxing card set is one of the most famous examples in the hobby, known for its portrayal of boxing legends like Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey. One famous omission from the Leaf set is Rocky Marciano, the undefeated heavyweight champion of the world. Marciano kickstarted his professional career in mid-1948, to late to appear in this classic set of cards. The legendary sports artist Arthur Miller has righted this historical wrong with this entry in the tremendous “A Card That Never Was” series, creating a canvas example of Marciano’s hypothetical 1948 Leaf card.
This canvas artwork shows a gloved Marciano in front of a blue background. The red color of Marciano’s glove pops off the canvas, contrasting beautifully with the blue background and his black-and-white Benlee trunks. This canvas measures 40 x 33 inches.
