Babe Ruth Auction To Benefit Babe Ruth Foundation Closing February 18
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/18/2017
On June 13th, 1948 Babe Ruth made his final public appearance at Yankee Stadium during the Yankees Silver Anniversary ceremony for the 1923 Yankees. Ruth, ravaged by soon-to-be fatal cancer, gave a touching speech in front of the Yankee faithful, donning his iconic pinstripes for the final time.
Presented here is a script for a portion of the speeches before the Yankees played an Old Timer’s Game that day. The script is six pages long, and includes cues for Babe Ruth, Mel Allen, and more. It concludes with Wally Schang uttering those timeless words, “Play Ball!” The six pages of the script are arranged on two pieces of thick black paper. Goldin Auctions will be donating 5% of the winning bid price of this lot and all lots in this auction to the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum.
