Kenesaw Mountain Landis was the first man to assume the mantle of Commissioner of Baseball, brought in to stabilize the rickety sport in the wake of the Black Sox scandal of 1919. A former judge with a burning desire for law and order, Landis made tough, and some would say often unfair, rulings with the goal of stabilizing baseball. Landis served as commissioner from his election in 1920 until his death in 1944, shortly after which he was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.

Landis signed his name on the inside cover of this first edition “1943 Baseball Official Major and Minor League Records” book that was published in 1943. The book is 736 pages long and measures 5 x 7 inches with a blue cover. Landis’s signature on the inside cover is in black ink and he inscribed it to a name that is not readable. The rest of the inscription reads “With my hearty good wishes” and dated it “1943. The book is in good condition, given its age and all of the pages are intact. Some of the pages display toning and the paper edges display minor edge wear. This book comes with a LOA from JSA (Z76370) for Landis’ signature.
