Offered here is an entry in the “Baseball Card That Never Was” series. This piece is an interpretation of a 1951 Bowman Baseball card featuring Jackie Robinson. Robinson, of course, was the first African-American player to play in the Major Leagues when he began with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947.This beautiful canvas painting features Robinson in his gorgeous Dodgers home white uniform while smiling and holding a bat over his right shoulder. “JACKIE ROBINSON” is printed in white on a black rectangle box that runs across his waist. Robinson is painted in front of a fence, with trees and a bright blue sky with some clouds. Its style is reminiscent of Bowman’s early 1950’s baseball cards. This piece of artwork was created by Arthur Miller, who signed the front and back of this 42 x 27 inch framed canvas. On the back Miller signed his name “Arthur K. Miller” and added “A CARD THAT NEVER WAS: JACKIE ROBINSON (51 BOWMAN)” and “2014”.
