Presented is the signature of noted 19th century American statesman Daniel Webster on U.S. State Department letterhead, dated April 24, 1843. The document is the appointment of two men to the post of Justice of the Peace for Washington County in the District of Columbia. Webster has signed his name in black ink at the bottom of the 8 x 11-inch white sheet with black lettering and black inscriptions. There is a white paper seal of the United States with green ribbon at the bottom left of the document. The document has been mounted on black paper within a 13¼ x 16-inch black and gold wood frame. Webster (January 18, 1782–October 24, 1852) was an American statesman who represented New Hampshire and Massachusetts in the United States Congress and served as Secretary of State under Presidents William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, and Millard Fillmore. This item has been authenticated by Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication and comes with a LOA.
