Offered is a rare baseball trophy from Galt, California in 1870. The 6-inch tall silver Reed & Barton cup is engraved “Given as a Prize to the Champion B. Ball Club Presented at Galt, Sept. 30 1870 by Dunsworth J. Lewis”. There are two minor dents in the lip of the cup. The upper rim of the cup is engraved with a banner motif. This is likely a prize from one of the earliest West Coast baseball tournaments, as the sport was first introduced to the region in the late 1860s and is one of the earliest West Coast baseball trophies that has been offered up for auction.
