If the Harry Wright full season 1886 scorebook is out of your price range, perhaps this 1884-86 score book is more to your liking. This “SPALDING’S New and Improved POCKET BASE BALL SCORE BOOK” has a hard, heavy board like cover, with room for 46 games, of which 14 are completely scored in pencil. Despite its use over those years, and the time elapsed since, this book is in amazing condition, with some light chipping on the inner accordion style spine. The neatly scored book was the ownership of Charlie A Moore, who signed his name in the Scorers section, and the games were all played in either as Providence or Boston National League home games during the seasons 1884 and 1885, except for two 1886 game’s from the New England League (with newspaper accounts of each game included). It is likely these were games which the scorer actually attended as a fan. Most of the games are against Chicago or Detroit, as the fan likely wanted to see the two best two of the league play when they came to the New England area, while one mid-October game is versus Cincinnati of the American Association. Each Hall of Fame player who appeared in the games is written neatly in majestic script. Names of Cap Anson, Mike Kelly, Old Hoss Radbourn, Bid McPhee, Sam Thompson, John Clarkson and even Billy Sunday appeared in one lineup for the White Stockings. This is a tremendous piece of baseball history, a book which is in remarkably well preserved condition.
