Graded 50 VG/EX 4 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This is one of three examples at its tier (with one graded higher) among a total of just eleven copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Here's a fine example of one the most sought-after entries in the N284 set. The insert cards produced for Buchner's Gold Coin Chewing Tobacco in 1887 are unusual in that many of the depictions in the set do not resemble the cards' avowed subjects, but the depictions' period flavor is unmistakable. The offered piece boasts strong colors, a clear surface and a very bright manner of presentation. Dan Brouthers was one of the game's first true sluggers. In fact, he led the league in slugging percentage for six straight seasons and topped the loop in batting on five different occasions. A high-quality, 19th century scarcity, in enticing Very Good to Excellent condition.
