Due to a tie Game 2, the 1912 World Series was forced to have an 8th Game, played in Boston’s Fenway Park due to the Sox winning the coin flip. Earlier in the Series there were rumors of game fixing by the Red Sox, who also saw their Royal Rooters fans boycott the final game. This caused Fenway Park to be about half full for this deciding Series game. After taking a 2-1 10th inning lead, and Christy Mathewson on the hill, the Giants made two costly miscues, including the famed Fred Snodgrass dropped fly ball, and saw the Red Sox score two in the bottom of the 10th for a clinching 3-2 walk off victory. This scored program features extensive original owner notations including the date “Oct 16, 1912” written along the top of the cover, with “Snodgrass dropped fly ball in 10th inning” in the middle. Within the actual scored pages are various notations of player changes including “Wood pitched 8-9-10 innings” referencing superstar Red Sox hurler Smoky Joe Wood who came in relief after starting the prior day’s game. Featured within its thirty-six pages are individual photos and short biographies of twenty-two Boston team members and front-office executives, including Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, Joe Wood, player/manager Jake Stahl, Duffy Lewis, and Bill Carrigan. The preprinted lineups include Mathewson, Doyle, Snodgrass and Merkle for New York and Hooper, Yerkes, Speaker, Lewis, and Wood for Boston. The approximate 7 x 10 inch program grades Excellent to Mint overall with a sturdy, fully intact spine with noticeable oxidation to the staples, and light folds to front cover. The inside pages exhibits some very light stains here and there with a couple minute edge tears, but nothing which detracts from the overall wonderful condition of this early World Series program from arguably the greatest World Series game up until that point in baseball history. Excellent to Mint condition.
