Offered is a very nice example of the 1916 World Series program issued at Boston, where Babe Ruth made his first ever World Series pitching appearance, winning Game 2 at home. Ruth allowed a first inning home run to Hi Myers, then not another run for the balance of his 14-inning complete game. Many fans know Whitey Ford holds the record for most consecutive scoreless innings in the World Series at 33 innings. But not many fans know Ford broke Babe Ruth’s record began in this game! Ruth allowed this first inning run in his first ever game, and then not another run until the final inning of his final World Series pitching appearance in 1918! Though similar in design to the 1915 Boston World Series program, Boston's 1916 edition is far rarer. Ruth is featured in two Red Sox team photos, one in the interior pages and one on the back cover (interestingly, in this photo the large bodied Babe is awkwardly seated cross-legged on the ground). The program is neatly scored in pencil for Game 2, with Ruth duly noted as the starting pitcher, as are all the outs he recorded over his 14 inning masterpiece. The program has a vertical center folding crease, and one staple is slightly misplaced (should be on the spine but is slightly into the cover, an occurrence witnessed on known programs from this game). Spine has light separation but is full intact. Overall in Very Good overall condition example form Babe Ruth’s first ever World Series mound appearance.
