Offered in this lot are seven tickets from boxing matches in the early to mid-20th century. The first ticket is a stub from Jack Dempsey’s fight against Georges Carpentier on July 2nd, 1921 at Boyle’s Thirty Acres in Jersey City. Dempsey won the fight via fourth round knockout to retain his world heavyweight title. The second ticket is from Dempsey’s July 4th, 1923 bout against Tom Gibbons at the Arena in Shelby, Montana. Dempsey defeated Gibbons on points after 15 rounds to retain his heavyweight titles. The third ticket in this lot is from Jess Willard’s July 12th, 1923 fight against Jose Luis Firpo at Boyle’s Thirty Acres. Firpo knocked out the “Pottawatomie Giant” in the eighth round, ending Willard’s storied career. This ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded a GOOD 2 by PSA (21350999).

The next ticket in this lot is from Dempsey’s fight against Firpo on September 14th, 1923 at Polo Grounds. This legendary fight saw 11 knockdowns, including Firpo sending Dempsey clean through the ropes and out of the ring, before Dempsey knocked out “The Wild Bull of the Pampas” for good in the second round. The next ticket in this lot is from Jack Dempsey’s penultimate fight, a battle against Jack Sharkey at Yankee Stadium on July 21st, 1927. Dempsey knocked out Sharkey in the seventh of 15 rounds, setting up his legendary “Long Count” fight with Gene Tunney that September. The penultimate ticket in this lot is from Sharkey’s fight on September 27th, 1933 at Philadelphia Ball Park against Tommy Loughran. Loughran won a split decision contest after the bout went all 15 rounds. The final ticket in this lot is from Rocky Marciano’s fight against Archie Moore at Yankee Stadium on September 21st, 1955. This was the final fight in Marciano’s storied, undefeated career, with the reigning heavyweight champ knocking out Moore in the ninth round.
