No batter in the history of the game was more feared than Ty Cobb. Even at the end of his career, Cobb showed the same magnificent skill at the plate as he did as a young man. During the years 1923 to 1925 from which PSA/DNA dates this bat, the Georgia Peach, aged 36-38, hit a combined .349! That this type of bat was used by the game's greatest hitter is shown in the records of Hillerich & Bradsby which based on the C-4C center brand, has narrowed the bat to the 1923-25 seasons. As you would expect from a Ty Cobb bat, this C28 example shows excellent use and is un-cracked. There are several ball marks that are visible on the right and back barrel, along with several depressions on the surface of the barrel. Although there is no model number stamped on the knob are barrel, this has been determined to be Cobb’s C28 model based on the calibrations done by PSA/DNA that match the measurements from Cobb’s Professional Bat Ordering Record (PBOR) on file at the Louisville Slugger Museum. Comparisons were made of the knob handle and barrel dimensions. The natural finish ash wood has taken on a warm, glowing patina, befitting a real piece of baseball history such as this. According to the letter, PSA cannot confirm use on this bat by Cobb however this bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (I02723) and a LOA from MEARS, who have dated this bat from the years 1921-28 and given it a grade of A7.
