One of the most interesting products marketed by the great Babe Ruth was the 1920s/30s Babe Ruth All-American Underwear. These colorful green boxes contained a half dozen examples of “Babe Ruth” underwear, with a tremendous image of the very physically fit Bambino, arms crossed, wearing period gym attire, and sporting an intriguing smile. And why not? In early 1927, at the time this image was taken at the Sussman studios, Ruth was the premier figure in America, and would soon sign a three-year contract for $70,000 per season – more than the President! Offered is a signed example of this fascinatingly important image. This 7.25” x 9.25” sepia image is clipped on all four corners, contains a few edge creases and has the years “1927-28” written in the upper right corner. Oh…it also has a very nice black fountain pen “Babe Ruth” signature, placed directly below a secretarial example. The image also has the photographer name “SUSSMAN” in white along the right side. As mentioned earlier, Ruth posed for Sussman in early 1927 and this particular image was used for autograph requests and promotional purposes, like underwear. This fantastic original photo is nicely matted and framed to a dimension of 18 x 20.5 inches. This is the first example of this famous image we have ever handled, and signed by Ruth just prior to the greatest season of his storied career. Full LOAs from PSA/DNA and James Spence Authentication.
