There have been several home run hitting duos throughout baseball history – Mantle/Maris, Mathews/Aaron, Canseco/McGwire – but none have been as revered or remain as distinguished as Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. The two legends were teammates from 1925 to 1934, giving the Yankees an unbeatable one-two punch that brought them three World Championships. During their decade together, the duo hit 493 home runs, re-writing the record books along the way. In 1928, the pair combined for 81 home runs, more than the entire team total six other clubs in the American League managed to hit that year. As usual, Ruth’s 54 homers led the league while also scoring the most runs and hitting at a .323 pace. Lou finished 1928 by hitting a majestic .374 with 27 home runs and leading the league with the most RBI, doubles and on-base percentage.

That fall, the two teammates completely decimated the St. Louis Cardinals pitching staff in the World Series, Ruth hitting .625 with three homers and Gehrig .545 and four homers. At some point during that enchanted 1928 season, the power duo took time out to autograph this exceptional ball. Babe and Lou have signed this offered 1928 Reach Official American League E.S. Barnard stamped ball in black fountain pen, Ruth on the sweet spot and Gehrig on the panel to the left. The placement allows the ball to be displayed in a way in which both signatures are visible. The condition of the ball itself is outstanding, with only some light toning and scuffs. The leather is a warm creamy white and the red and blue stitching remains very bright. A choice ball that collects the two greatest Yankees at the very height of their careers. The ball comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (AE00510) for the signatures.
