Hall of Famer Mel Ott finished his career with 511 home runs. Offered here is an incredibly rare item tied to the legendary Giant. This Official National League John Heydler stamped baseball was hit by Ott for his 54th career home run during the September 2nd game against the Philadelphia Phillies at the Polo Grounds. To mark the occasion, an inscription was handwritten in black pen on the side panel that reads “Home Run By M. OTT #35 SEPT. 2nd 1929”. Ott’s home run in the game was his 35th of the 1929 season. On the opposite panel is inscribed “PHILA 4 N.Y. 3” and “HUBBELL O’FARRELL”. The sweet spot has inscribed “Polo Grounds N.Y.” This home run ball comes with a full LOA from MEARS (314910) who have authenticated this ball to Mel Ott’s 54th career home run from September 2, 1929.
