French attacker Lucien Laurent was presented with this 2 x 2 1/2-inch gold-plated bronze medal by the French Football Federation for scoring the first goal in inaugural FIFA World Cup on July 13th, 1930. Laurent struck against Mexico in the 19th minute of the game as France claimed a 4-1 victory in Montevideo’s Estadio Pocitos. Laurent earned 10 caps for France and was selected to the 1934 World Cup team. This offered medal features “Federation Francaise De Football Association” and “Instituee le 7 Avril 1919” etched in high relief on the front, as well as a scene of a woman presenting a branch. Etched on the back is a scene of soccer players and the FFFA logo. Text etched on the back reads “France vs Mexique / 13 Juillet / Montevideo / Lucien Laurent / VIS ANIMI CVM CORPORE CRESCIT”. This medal comes with a 3 1/2 x 3 1/2-inch case.
