Uruguayan wing-half Jose Leandro Andrade was presented with this medal commemorating Uruguay’s victory in the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Uruguay hosted the tournament after dominating European competition in the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics, with Andrade playing a key role in both gold medal winning campaigns. Andrade starred in the 1930 World Cup as Uruguay defeated arch-rivals Argentina 4-2 in the final match at Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario. Andrade played the majority of his domestic career in Uruguay for Bella Vista, Nacional, and Penarol before winding down his playing days in Argentina.

This offered medal is circular and silver in color, with a high relief etching of an athletic man on the front. “FIFA” is etched on the front of the medal as well. Etched on the back of the medal is “A.U. de F. / -A- / Leandro Andrade / Campeon Mundial / 1930”. This historic medal was part of the historic Rony Almeida Soccer Collection and is accompanied by a Letter of Provenance.
