The stalwart defender Jose Nasazzi led Uruguay to their greatest era of international soccer glory in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Nasazzi captained la celeste to victories in the 1924 and 1928 Summer Olympics before marshaling the Uruguay XI in the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup in Montevideo. Retroactively named the tournament’s best player by FIFA, Nasazzi led a defense that surrendered a paltry three goals against 15 scored. Uruguay lifted the trophy with an emotional 4-2 victory over rivals Argentina at Montevideo’s Estadio Centenario. Nasazzi finished his international career with 41 Uruguay caps and victories in four South American championships.

This regal trophy measures 13" tall and is a dual-handled silver cup atop a brown stone pedestal. It features a raised Uruguayan Football Association crest above the etched text “A.U. de F. / Al / Campeon Del Mundo / ‘Gran Capitan’ / Jose Nasazzi / Montevideo 1930”. This ornate trophy is in very good condition. It is a tremendous artifact from the best player of the inaugural 1930 FIFA World Cup!
