Offered in this lot are tickets to the first two games of the 1931 World Series between the 107-win Philadelphia Athletics and the 101-win St. Louis Cardinals. Game 1 took place at Sportsman’s Park in St. Louis, with the Athletics riding an excellent start by Lefty Grove to a 6-2 victory. Al Simmons hit a two-run homer off Paul Derringer in the seventh inning and finished the game with three RBI. Jimmie Foxx plated two runs for the A’s and Grove struck out seven batters in a masterful complete game performance. This ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded an EX 5 by PSA (15880468). This is the highest grade assigned to this ticket in the PSA database.

Game 2 also took place at Sportsman’s Park, with Bill Hallahan hurling for the Cardinals and George Earnshaw on the hill for Philadelphia. Hallahan tossed a gem, allowing only three hits in a complete-game shutout performance as the Cardinals won 2-0. Jimmie Wilson and Charlie Gebhart notched the Cardinals two RBI and Pepper Martin scored both runs in the second and seventh innings. The Cardinals would go on to win the World Series in seven games for their second World Series title in franchise history. This ticket stub has been encapsulated and graded a VG 3 by PSA (20989080).
