Presented is a 132-card complete master set of R136 National Chicle "Sky Birds" non-sports cards issued in 1933-34. This ever-popular non-sports series features famous aviators and their planes. Subjects range from the Wright Brothers to Amelia Earhart, and the cards are much appreciated by collectors today both for their nostalgic, 1930s-style character and their beautifully executed artworks. The classic Sky Birds subjects include Edward Rickenbacker, Baron von Richthofen, Lt. James Doolittle, Charles Lindbergh, and The Spirit of St. Louis. This master set includes the 108-card base set (the "High Numbers" aggregate is about GD) and the 24-card scarce "Series of 144" sub-set (#'s 25 to 48, inclusive). Highlights include: #'s 1 Putnam (VG), 20 Rickenbacker (EX+), 23 Von Richthofen (EX-), 32 Doolitte (GD/VG), 36 Lindbergh (FR), 48 Earhart (FR), 49 Wright (PR), 62 Post (GD), 72 Spirit of St. Louis (GD/VG) and 108 Fokker D 8 (GD). The 108-card base set grades 25% EX to EX/MT, 49% VG to VG/EX, 26% lesser (one trimmed). Highlights of the "Series of 144" subjects include: #'s 25 Werner (presents GD, ink colored in pinhole), 32 Doolitte (FR), 36 Lindbergh (PR) and 48 Earhart (GD). The 24-card "Series of 144" sub-set grades 46% VG to VG/EX, 25% GD to GD/VG, 29% lesser. Overall, this is an attractive and scarce 132-card master set of these desirable non-sports cards!
