Since the first event was such a success, MLB decided to make the All Star game an annual event. The second game, played on July 10, 1934 also saw the New York Yankees Lefty Gomez start on the hill for the American League, with Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in their customary third and fourth spots in the lineup. On the hill for the National League was hometown hero Carl Hubbell, who famously proceeded to consecutively strike out Hall of Famers Ruth, Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons and Joe Cronin. Despite Hubbell’s heroic’s the American League won their second straight All Star game, 9-7. This un-scored program was issued that day in the Polo Grounds, and despite one inch spine separations on top and bottom (and the date “7/10/34” written in pencil on the cover), the program displays in extremely high grade condition with secure original staples and well kept pages. Grades overall Excellent condition.
