Offered is a signed National League contract between Joe Medwick and the Brooklyn Dodgers for the 1941 Major League Baseball season. The 8 ½ x 11-inch white paper four-page “National League of Professional Baseball Clubs Uniform Player’s Contract” is printed in black and red. Typed on the first page in black is “Brooklyn National League Baseball Club, Inc.” and “Joseph Medwick (of) St. Louis, Missouri” and the salary of “$18,000.00”. Medwick has signed his name in black ink on the bottom right corner of the second page, dated September 30, 1940.
Accompanying the contract is a two-page typewritten letter from the “Office of the Commissioner” to the “Brooklyn National League Club Players” detailing the breakdown of the team’s shares for the 1940 World Series ($30,331.06 total). (While the Dodgers didn’t play in the 1940 World Series, each of the Major League teams received a post-season share of the receipts). This item comes with a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication.
