Hall of Famer Billy Southworth was a right fielder who played from 1913 to 1929 with the Cleveland Indians, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Braves, New York Giants and St. Louis Cardinals. He finished his playing days with a career batting average of .297 and it was during his managerial career in the big leagues where he enjoyed his most success. He managed four NL pennant winners (St. Louis Cardinals, 1942, 1943 and 1944; and the Boston Braves, 1948), as well as two World Series Champions (1942 and 1944).

Offered here is an Official National League John Heydler stamped baseball that features two signatures of Billy Southworth. Southworth signed his name across the sweet spot in a black steel-tipped fountain pen and inscribed “New York Giants”. Southworth also signed his name on the north panel, also in black pen and inscribed “St. Louis Cardinals Worlds Champs -1942-“. This ball displays some toning, but the stampings are still clear and bold. This ball comes from the collection of the late Gene Autry and a LOA signed by his widow Jacqueline Autry will accompany this ball. Additionally, there is a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25583).
